At approximately 04h45 on Tuesday, 29 May 2018 a diesel spillage was reported at Berth 208 in the Port of Richards Bay where the tanker JAG AMISHA was operating.
Investigations are currently underway, however, preliminary reports have indicated that the spillage was caused by a failed gasket.
The incident was reported to TNPA at approximately 06h00. TNPA’s Business Continuity Plan was activated and Emergency Response teams were deployed. The relevant authorities have been notified.
Clean-up operations, which include the installation of absorbent booms to contain the spillage and application of absorbent material, are underway.
Operations at Berth 208 have resumed to normal.
