Transnet National Ports Authority has deployed three tugs to assist in the refloating of the vessel, CMA CGM SAMSON, which struck bottom at approximately 13h22 today, 3 April 2018, while entering the Cape Town Container Terminal at low tide. The vessel was under pilotage at the time of the incident.

No injuries have been recorded and all emergency services are on stand-by.
Refloating attempts will be undertaken at high tide at 17h00 today, 3 April 2018, in collaboration with the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA). The three tugs involved in the salvage are Usiba, Nseleni and Pinotage.

Shipping movements in and out of Duncan Dock and Cape Town Container Terminal are presently suspended as the 335-metre long vessel is currently blocking the entrance.

CMA CGM SAMSON is carrying 1000 containers and was en route from Singapore with 23 crew members on board. Her next destination was Pointe Noire in the Congo.
